While south suburban residents cheered on local products in the Super Bowl, major companies showed off their products in the commercials. Tell us who had the most memorable ad.
From post-apocalyptic Chevy owners to Elton John as a Pepsi-dispensing king, last night's Super Bowl was full of memorable ads. We at Patch weren't that excited by the ads, though. We've seen a lot better. We recap some of the more memorable ones below, but if you liked something better (from past or present) tell us in the comments). Here are a few of our favorites. Pick which one topped your list. Watch all the commercials here. Without the Bears, Sunday’s game is simply an excuse for time spent with friends and for snacking. Tell us your best game treats in the comments.
Up until then, the 2011 Super Bowl was the most watched television program of all time. The Nielsen Company said about 111 million people watched some team that doesn’t need to be named beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. But how many of these so-called people were actually watching the game? Plenty of TVs were likely tuned to the action, but how many eyeballs were actually paying attention? Some might argue people watch for the commercials, but now we see them all ahead of time anyway. So that leaves friends and food. We’re not about to be so presumptuous to tell you how to make friends, so let’s stick with snacks. We look back at a week full of intense weather, new features and pained memories.
I was not convinced the storm would be that bad. Living in the Chicago area for nearly my whole life, I have heard dozens of wolf cries in the form of weather alerts. Often the warnings simply led to a smattering of flurries, maybe some sleet. Perhaps it was the last weather alert that fueled my flippancy. And then Big Nasty hit. Given the extreme circumstances, the villages stepped up to the plate with noticeable …

A wise individual once said it’s never too late to change. While whoever first said that probably didn’t understand the pain Chicago Bears fans might feel while watching a Super Bowl that doesn’t include our team, this person still makes a point. We can certainly enjoy watching Green Bay get stomped while appreciating the Steelers for doing so, even if we don’t really root for them. With that in mind, we introduce Patch Picks. Every Thursday at 3 p.m., we will offer a list of events, specials, places to go for assorted enjoyment and things to do with your time not at home. For our first, we present you a few places where you could enjoy the Super Bowl as much as a Bears fan can under these circumstances. Look for Patch Picks every Thursday…
