Update, 10 p.m., Monday, Jan. 21, 2013 Orland Park trustees voted in favor of an increase in water rates Monday night, to defray rising costs from Chicago and Oak Lawn and to maintain Orland's local infrastructure. Rates for properties using 9,000 gallons per month or less will be $4.65 per 1,000 gallons, between 9,000 and 18,000 gallons costs $5.62 and greater than 18,000 gallons costs $6.59. The new rates begin immediately and will include water use back to Jan. 1. The increase is expected to cost an average Orland Park household an additional $64.26 per year. Students, including those from Orland Park and nearby, and staff from the Catholic school recently took a pledge to ignore an increasingly common distraction while driving.
Providence Catholic High School students, faculty and staff recently participated in AT&T’s “It Can Wait” campaign, which educates the community on the dangers of texting while driving. “The campaign’s message is clear and very compelling,” said Donald Sebestyen, Principal of PCHS. Hundreds of students, those who are already driving and those who expect to get that license soon, participated in a campaign aimed at alerting kids about the potential dangers of not paying attention to the road while sitting behind the wheel. The documentary refused to sugar coat the potential consequences of drivers distracted by text messages and more. Orland Park police reports, July 25-28
SATURDAY, JULY 28 Police were called about a car accident in the 16700 block of Summercrest Avenue around 9:10 p.m. An officer saw a woman walking in the middle of the street away from a vehicle stopped on the street’s south side with the door open, and with significant passenger side damage to the car, police said. A man at the scene told police that the woman tried to drive away after the accident, but he blocked her car and that’s why she was walking away, according to the report. The woman failed field sobriety tests and her breath smelled like alcohol, police said. Laura D. Orland Park police reports, Feb. 5-6
Stopped at Green Light Michael J. Levickis, 30, of the 11300 block of Depot Street in Worth, was charged with driving under the influence, improper lane usage, disobeying a traffic signal and driving with a loud muffler. Police said they stopped Levickis’ car at Orlan Brook Drive and Shagbark Court around 2 a.m. for making a wide right turn, swerving between lanes and abruptly stopping his car at a green light. Oncoming Traffic Eula M. Adams, 61, of the 6700 block of Oglesby in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence, improper lane usage and driving an uninsured vehicle. I can see stopping txting while driving, I can even see only hands free phone usage only while driving too, but what's next.........no changing radio stations or putting in a CD while your driving? Water going up, don't complain, I'm in unicorporated Orland and pay a heck of a lot more for it than Orland proper. I should be the one complaining for over the years with all the extras our area payed…   more ›
