A Ford SUV ran into the back of a dump truck on I-80 around 1 p.m. on Wednesday. The Illinois State Police and Cook County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed at least one person died in the crash.

A report on the accident was still being worked on, and no details were available concerning the person killed, the state police said. Illinois State Police report an accident about 3:30 p.m. today in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 at LaGrange Road in Mokena. There is no information about injuries. The eastbound lanes of traffic on I-80 are open, but traffic is slow, ISP said. Shortly thereafter traffic backups southbound on Interstate 355 near Intersate 80 in New Lenox are to blame for a problem with two semi-trucks, ISP say. Traffic is moving at a slow pace, according to police.

One person was taken to the hospital as a precaution Monday morning, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
Slippery sheens of ice coating roadways Monday morning led to four separate vehicle accidents, involving 12 total cars, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office. Two vehicles rolled over, while two other accidents occurred involving five vehicles each between 6:30 a.m. and 6:45 a.m. near LaGrange Road and Route 83, sheriff's office spokesperson Sophia Ansari wrote in an email. One person was taken to a hospital as a precaution, according to Ansari. "Everything should be cleared by now and the bridge has been salted," Ansari wrote. MONDAY, DEC. 10 Police were called to Whole Foods about a retail theft around 7:45 p.m. Security said a man was seen hiding two containers of fish oil pills in his sleeves before leaving the store without paying, police said. The pills are worth $103.98, according to the report. Spiro K. Manasses, 66, of the 9400 block of 86th Court in Hickory Hills, was charged with retail theft. Crews from the Orland Park Fire Protection District spent quite a bit of time on 159th Street late Saturday morning, taking care of a car fire and an unrelated, two-vehicle crash that slowed down traffic for about a half hour, a fire official said. Crews were initally called at 11:13 a.m. to take care of a small fire in the engine compartment of a vehicle in the median of the 7800 block of 159th Street, said Battalion Chief William Bonnar. In fact, one of the responding units was a block away at a community event at Home Depot when a witness informed the crew about the fire, Bonnar said. UPDATED: 3:21 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27 An accident between a motorcycle and a car that closed down the intersection of 143rd Street and John Humphrey Drive for a few hours early Friday evening left the motorcyclist seriously injured and hospitalized in critical condition, according to a police official. Police say no initial indication that alcohol was involved with the crash that also included people from Tinley, Lemont and Mokena.
A Frankfort girl died from injuries after a two-vehicle accident in Orland Park Friday night, while another teen was injured but later released from care. Julie Gorczynski, 17, of Frankfort was pronounced dead after being taken to Palos Community Hospital. A 17-year-old girl from Mokena was driving a 1997 Jeep Cherokee in which Gorczynski was riding at the time of the crash, and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where she was later released after being treated. Gorczynski graduated from Lincoln-Way North High School this year. She would have turned 18 on June 16. Sweetheart, there aren't any State Troopers...ask the politicians why. The State Police has lost 30% of its force with retirements and new hires aren't on pace to replace them. As you can see, the do more with less approach isn't working. Some Troopers may have as much as a 50 mile patrol in areas now.
