The Orland Park man accused of videoing himself as he eluded and mocked police on a motorcycle will be hiring a new attorney, after his previous one was disqualified because of a conflict with a key witness.
A 22-year-old Orland Park man facing felony charges related to videos made of popping wheelies on a motorcycle, while riding close to other vehicles on the road and taunting police that ended up on YouTube, is seeking new representation. The trial for Justin Jachimiec was set to begin on Feb. 6, but during jury selection, his attorney Patrick Doherty found he was also representing one of the state’s key witnesses in a different case still in court, and was disqualified. A public defender was appointed immediately, while Jachimiec and his family decided whether they would stick with the appointed lawyer, or hire another. The trial of an Orland man accused of videotaping himself fleeing and eluding police on a motorcycle in clips that later ended up on Youtube was set to begin Wednesday, but his lawyer was dismissed because of a conflict regarding a witness.
Update, 6:04 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 Attorney Patrick Doherty was slated to represent in court 22-year-old Justin Jachimiec, accused of videoing himself popping wheelies on a motorcycle and mocking police, as he rode by squad cars and other vehicles in a residential area of Orland Park. However, during jury selection on Wednesday, Doherty found that one of the state’s key witnesses is a client of his on an unrelated case still pending in court. As a result, Judge Carmen Aguilar dismissed Doherty from representing further Jachimiec on his case. A new trial date for early February has been set for the 22-year-old man accused of being the Orland "Ghost Rider," a wheelie-popping motorcyclist who videoed himself fleeing police, clips of which were later found on YouTube. Justin Jachimiec has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him, including two counts of felony fleeing and eluding police and other traffic violations. Jachimiec is currently in custody in the Cook County Department of Corrections on a no-bond order after he missed an October court date. The trial of Justin Jachimiec, whom police say is the wheelie-popping, police-fleeing shown on several Youtube videos, has been delayed, with the next court date in December.
The trial of an Orland Park man accused of recklessly driving a motorcycle around the village, mocking police and shooting videos of the escapades, was postponed this week. But Justin Jachimiec, 22, is scheduled to be back in a Bridgeview courtoom on Dec. 18 for a status hearing. A new trial date has not been announced. He has pleaded not guilty to charges against him, including two counts of felony fleeing and eluding police and other traffic violations. Orland Park police arrested him in March. Three months later, he was in McDonough County court for different charges of fleeing and eluding against him, and was acquitted. The Orland Park man couldn't make it to his Cook County court hearing on Thursday because he was sitting in McDonough County jail for breaking the terms of a bail posted in 2010.
Justin Jachimiec, the alleged wheelie-popping motorhead known better by the nickname “Orland Ghost Rider,” remained in McDonough County jail Thursday awaiting trial on more charges of fleeing and eluding authorities. His arrest in March, for allegedly having dodged and mocked Orland Park police officers on a stolen motorbike, violated the terms of his previous McDonough County bail. In November 2010, he was arrested in Macomb, Ill., and charged with reckless driving, criminal damage to property, DUI, unlawful consumption and three counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding.
