Orland Park has drawn up a media blitz to get out the word on applying for a property tax rebate from the village next year. “We wanted to make this as easy as possible,” said Trustee James Dodge. "And accurate." The plan includes news releases to media outlets, stories in the village newsletter, postcards mailed to every household in the village, links to an electronic application on the village website, how-to apply videos that will be posted on the village website as well as cable access and YouTube, messages on the village Facebook page and via Twitter, and staffers who will be available at village hall to discuss the rebate. “We want people to apply electronically,” Dodge said. “It cuts down on entry errors and is more accurate. But …

Homeowners and dog owners alike will be getting something from the village next year. Read on for our full transcript of Monday night’s village board meeting.
Update: 10:15 p.m., Monday, Aug. 6, 2012 Orland Park home and property owners will be getting a property tax rebate from the village in 2013. Orland Park’s Village Board all voted in favor of the rebate. Trustee James Dodge did not attend the meeting. Each person who qualifies will be getting the same amount of money out of a total of $2.5 million that will be rebated from village funds. Exactly how much money that will be depends on the number of qualifying applicants, though the villages has estimated that if about 19,000 property owners qualify they will receive about $131 each. Orland Park staff will be working on ways to make portions of the application process electronic, though previous application methods will still likely be used…

Now the whole board has to vote on the rebate plan, after the finance committee looked it over at Monday night’s Orland Park Village Board Meeting.
Update, 10:55 p.m. Monday, July 2, 2012 Orland Park residents are one vote away from receiving a property tax rebate from the village, for the first time since 2009. The village’s finance committee gave the go-ahead for the full board to take a vote on a $2.5 million rebate of property taxes, culled from a handful of capital projects that were under budget, and other sources. About $490,000 came from selling land on the southeast corner of 143rd Street and LaGrange Road to Marquette Bank, while construction on the intersection had just under $382,000 that can be put into the rebate. (Look at the attached document to see the full list of savings sources) The average return if 19,000 applicants send in for the rebate would be about $137 per …

I think Mr. Fotopoulos is right on the mark. Property tax rebates were not given for the last few years, but started again due to an election. I look forward to the rebate, but am not swayed or bought. I prefer to have honest, intelligent and financially competent Trustees, so Mr. Fotopoulos fits the mold. I'm happy to vote for him in the upcoming election.   more ›
