As a lifelong resident of the southwest suburbs, I am thrilled to be reporting for the Palos Patch. I have a BA in political science from the University of Chicago and a master's in journalism from Northwestern University's Medill School.  In the past, I have reported on politics and elections in Chicago and environmental issues in Washington, D.C. I am a proud, albeit perpetually disappointed, Cubs fan. I look forward to learning more about the Palos area and covering stories that matter to you.

My Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. We also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. In the spirit of simple honesty, we encourage editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license to inject our beliefs into stories or dictate coverage according to them. Rather, we hope the knowledge our beliefs are on the record will cause us to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair and balanced manner. If you ever see evidence we failed in this mission, please let us know.

Politics
I have no political affiliation. I think it is important that journalists refrain from party politics. However, I do have political opinions of my own. I am progressive on most social issues and believe that well-organized government and smart policies have the capacity to improve lives. I think dialogue is important and we shouldn't hesitate to tackle the big problems.

Religion
I am Catholic, but I believe that no one religion can claim superiority. Whatever brings you peace and meaning is fine by me.

Local Hot-Button Issues
I think the Palos area, like all communities in Illinois, has seen school budgets and public programs cut in the wake of the budget crisis. Education is vital to the future, and I aim to dig in and report on what exactly is being cut and why.

I also believe development and business are important issues. The Palos area is well established and home to many locally owned businesses. The balance between chain retailers and locally owned is a delicate one, and something residents are passionate about.
