ReplyI think this lady put it well - heartbroken. I must admit after my anger, it really had to do with a loss of something good in Orland Park. Yes, yes, I know, enough said about the wisdom of the decision, but looking around at similar attempts by villages, it has not been good. So for what? A mayor's pyramid?

Parents just can't take for granted their children's safety and well being even at a playmate's house.

ReplyLet's not forget the transgression against the woman who had her purse stolen which was being used by this woman. It can be a long running nightmare for a person to deal with their credit history after your purse has been stolen as well as replacing charge cards, checks, etc. Nordstrom is a great retailer and I'm glad to hear that their staff was observant on this.

ReplyTaxpapers in Orland Park and in our country are just like lambs to the slaughter...everyone is too busy making a living (or maybe just keeping their jobs), raising their children and trying to be decent human beings and are without the time and money to delve into these shady dealings. Judy

ReplyWouldn't it be nice if the bakery moved in there?I now have to go to three locations for what I used to get at one (the plaza). More gasoline, more footprint. Judy Makar

ReplyKathie: Sadly, and without the fluff, you have stated a truth. Is it just human nature to just wake up when things go badly? There is a huge baby boomer population out there so even though our homes are paid off, our yearly tax bill could drive us out of our homes. If this complex becomes a boondoggle, like I think it will in this economy, it will add to our burden that perhaps many people will not be able to afford in retirement. We could have had a beautifully redesigned shopping plaza and still had space in other areas for a village congregation spot. I also look forward to leaving Cook County.

On the article Dominick's to Close Orland Park Store on Oct. 2

ReplyAndrea is giving common sense replies. I agree - it's not bashing, it's the truth. When I first moved here 25 years ago, Orland Park seemed more desirableto locate within than Tinley Park...but Tinley Park developed a vision and it has been successful. We seem to still have the "good ole boys" mentality. I, as well as many, many others, are taking their retail and restaurant dollar to Oakbrook Mall. And as for the development for "young professionals", my children who are "young professionals" snickered at the thought of living in Orland Park. All the redeveloped areas around downtown Chicago is where it's at...and truly Randy's and the plaza were unique - it could have been renovated into something unique. Whose blaming those store owners for not updating when their hands were tied by the Village?! Right on, Andrea!

ReplyMy heart is heavy to have learned of Sid's planned closing. I came to know the staff there and truly they were friendly and helpful. I don't have to explain the difference between the quality and selection at Sid's as compared to the big box stores to informed gardeners. I become all angry again at the corruption that brought about this economy. The best to you all at Sid's, Judy Makar

On the article Saying Thanks and Good Bye to An 'Oasis': Randy's Market Closes

ReplyI agree with all the posts; I'm feeling like I lost a member of a family after shopping at Randy's for 25 years. I remember when I ran to the store to hurriedly make cupcakes to bring to school as room mom for one of my children.. Went to check out, and no money, no checkbook! Without hesitation, Randy who was bagging the groceries, said "oh, just take the groceries and just come back with the money later." You think that would happen at Jewel or Dominick's? Thanks a lot Mayor, Village Manager and Village Board - I just can't wait to see how your "pyramid" works out in honor of your reign. Moving forward and progressing without including the Orland Plaza tenants is going to prove a bad political decision. Judy Makar
