ReplyThe fire districts renewing of debt bonds under the last board president without voter approval, really angered the taxpayers. Now we need a more efficient business plan for the future. A focus on EMT services and less on the out of control spending for the fire/rescue side of the business. We are a bedroom community not a factory town. Let the services we provide drive the business/cost plan. Not the union.

On the article Orland Fire Board Candidates on Solving District’s Challenges

ReplyOrland Fire costs are twice the Nat'l average. Why? Renewed Bond issues for lavish spending (training facility-work center-little used new equipment ) without, voter approval. Why? Excessive officer count and pay, Why? Excessive amounts of under used fire equipment that cost 10s of millions. Why? Scuba team ! Why? We are a bedroom community that needs EMT service, little else. Cost & mission realignment sorely needed. Not to mention the porn epidemic. And they want (new contract) how much more? 4 star General McCristol made $179K his last yr. He should have been an OP fire officer. BBQ grills, exercise equip,TV, Cable, Internet. Why? We clothe, feed, house, (a new 5 mil) training school and entertain these employees better than your children !! Why? Think, FIRE DEPARTMENT Referendum people. Kill this monster.

ReplyKirk lost his damn mind. The law protects the innocent young that can't protect themselves Senator. Imagine a new born being given to two Homosexuals to raise. This is acceptable? That is the best we can do? A Mother and Father Kirk. Like YOU had. Brain damage strikes another Senator. Judgment, lost to media pressure.

ReplyVouchers fellow taxpayers. The real answer. Parents should be free to choose the school of choice. Real competition breeds excellence. Only when students can either vote and or join a union will anyone care about them properly. Pawns. This school system is about patronage employment, not education. Dumb it down some more. Graduates, 17 trillion in debt waiting for you. Get that Goooood job.

ReplyAny time Mr. Moran would like to debate anything about the Orland Fire District in public, please invite me to this public disection of taxpayer extortion. I will take this topic to a level you can't imagine, and leave you with nothing but the solution at hand. That's a promise. Put up or shut up. A union running a fireman as a candidate for trustee. How imaginative.

On the article UPDATE: Boy Scout Leaders Delay Anti-Gay Policy Vote Until May

ReplyGay? No, it's HOMOSEXUALITY. Now that the pedophiles have been outed in the Church they need to flock to some other place to find their victims. They teach proper values in scouting that last a life time and do everything that is wholesome and good. If their intent was to obtain these values, then keep your sexual preference to your self. But that's not what they want. They want victims. I guess two Homosexuals adopting an new born child isn't (sic) enough. Change what is broken, not a national institution that produces MEN.

ReplyBarbie, I will not vote for more of the same. IMO. The fire district union has their own candidate running. Avoid this landmine. The highschool board is a wreck. I don't mind paying for classroom instructors but the rest is all patronage. Huge cuts are in order. SD135 isn't doing to bad. Keep in mind, SD230 raised your taxes the maximum amount allowed by law when they have over 50 million of your $ in the bank. Those zeros on your tax bill were paid for by YOU. Don't discount the cost of the library. It used to be free! Ilene Andrew built and funded our old library. Someone saw the patronage possibility's and look at the costs you have now. How much does it cost to down load a book on line? I like the library, but at what cost? Huge payroll. Why? Follow the money. The last time I supported our mayor he had told the voters not to vote for the Fire District Bond issue. He knew it would be very costly because he knew the bond would be "renewed" without you knowing it, again and again and the spending would be without any limits. A Fire Department would be given a budget by the village. Like say, Downers Grove. 14 million a year. OP 29 million a year. See the difference. OP could inject 20 million dollars a year into our local economy each year if we didn't have the patronage. For what the fire district cost for 1 year, you could build everyone in your subdivision a new home! Contract is being done right now. It's all hush, hush.

ReplyIt doesn't cost a dime to put your name on a ballot ! Now, who would want to have to finish the projects and pay the debt this mayor has imposed on the taxpayers? Those construction company's building 9750 donate to who's campaign fund? OP is a fortress of patronage allowed by a sleeping tax base. The waste and abuse of spending here is without conscience. We should have a cash surplus, not debt. I attend village board meetings. Do you? I offer cost cutting suggestions. I voice my opinions to the mayor, in person. If all OP boards don't retire all bonds permanently asap, you haven't seen anything yet! Debt destroyers everything, no exceptions, even entire states. Your children better get good jobs because the debt they have is enormus. HINT...the spending is based on these low interest rates. NOT GROWTH. You don't drive the economy with debt spending! Proof. 2012=1.9% GDP after 5 trillion in FED pumping. With the national and state debt what it is, a wise mayor would be hording cash not borrowing more. Look at your tax bill and ask, what is anyone doing to reduce those debts. Your future earnings already spent. Economic suicide. Bring this tax bill with you when you vote.
