Custody Dispute Sends Orland Park 5-Year-Old to Ireland

Jack Redmond was sent back to live with his father in Ireland, while his mother Mary remains in Orland Park and continues to fight for custody, according to CBS Chicago.

 

A 5-year-old boy, born in Blue Island and raised in Orland Park, has been sent back to Ireland to live with his father, as an ongoing custody dispute continues.

On Tuesday, Jack Redmond flew to Ireland to live with his father Derek Redmond, while Jack’s mother Mary Redmond remained in Orland Park. When the couple split, Derek filed for custody in Ireland, while Mary pushed to retain custody of Jack in the United States, according to a CBS Chicago report.

Both the World Court in the Hague, Netherlands and an Irish court ruled that custody of Jack is to be determined by an Irish court. A U.S. federal court upheld the ruling, which led to Jack being sent to Ireland, though he has spent most of his life in the Orland Park area.
