Negotiations Continue for Former Firefighter Accused of Sex Chatting a Teen

A prosecutor and a defense attorney for Dean Milenkovic, a former Orland firefighter accused of possessing child pornography and trying to sex chat with who he thought was a 13-year-old girl, are expected to complete negotiations in December.

A former Orland firefighter facing sex crime charges will wait until December to see the outcome of negotiations between his attorney and a prosecutor.

A 402 conference began between Milenkovich’s attorney Michael Krejci and a Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney on Tuesday at the Bridgeview Courthouse, though no details of the conference were discussed publicly. Attorneys and Judge Colleen Ann Hyland set a Dec. 3 date to complete the conference.

In July 2012, Milenkovic, 47, was charged with manufacturing harmful material via a webcam and two counts of solicitation of a minor, after police said he tried to sex chat online with a presumed 13-year-old girl who turned out to be an undercover officer. About three months later, he was charged with two counts of possession of child pornography.

Milenkovic has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges, and resigned from the Orland Fire Protection District after the first charges were filed.

He is out on bail and attended the brief court hearing, but he did not speak.

The 402 conference is described by the Cook County Guide to the Criminal Justice System as a method for plea bargaining.
