Sophomore Eagles Take Control of the Porters' Field
Sandburg's Sophomore Eagles let the air out of the Porters' Senior night sails last Friday night. The Sophomores defeated Lockport 41-16.
While the sophomore football matchups may not garner the same crowds as varsity games, the Sandburg Sophomore Eagles football team has certainly earned the right to be watched carefully!
As the sophomore Eagles began the game, it became obvious it would be a battle of offensive savvy and defensive strength. Scoring their first touchdown in the first three minutes of the game, the Eagles started their offensive game early. The Eagles running backs Brian Langowski, Johnny Pelligrino, Bobby Krop, and Danny Trentacoste kept the Porter defense guessing as the Eagles worked their way down the Porter field time and time again. The offensive strength of the Eagles O-line allowed QB Sean Leland to take his time and successfully hand off or pass the ball. O-line members Mike Howard, Yanni Demogerontas, Louis Paleothedoras, Corey Lunak, Brandon Cortez, and Justin Lenczycki protected Leland throughout the game.
Defensively, the Eagles were able to provide the necessary pressure against Lockport's QB Ryan Dalton to either prevent a successful handoff or cause an offensive pick. While the Eagles offense led the way to many touchdowns, the Eagle defense kept the Porters from visiting the end zone as much as they would have liked.
