Weather Doesn't Stop Senior Night for Eagles Hockey Club

Snow, ice, sub-zero temperatures are almost natural for hockey players...so the Eagles Hockey Club's Senior Night and game against Lincolnway went on as planned on Sunday night at Arctic Ice Arena in Orland Park.

While not as packed as most Eagles Hockey games, family and friends nearly filled the stands to honor the seven seniors on the Eagles Hockey team.  The night began with the players being announced by Varsity teammates Eric Simkowski and Trevor Hansen (both sophomores at Sandburg).  Simkowski and Hansen shared short stories about each player as they skated out onto the ice to meet their parents, present a rose to their moms and Eagle Hockey pucks to their dads.  The ceremony ended with Sandburg Senior Catherine Oliszewicz singing the National Anthem.  Oliszewicz's brother Dan is a freshman on the Eagles JV hockey team.

The Eagles faced off against Lincolnway, ending the game 5-3 with the loss. Scoring unassisted in the first period for the Eagles were juniors Justin Richards and Robbie Maxfield, with a second period goal by senior Alex Howey (assisted by Maxfield).

This was the Eagles last home game of the season.  With only six games remaining, both the Eagles Varsity and JV teams will travel to Addison Ice Arean on Friday, January 10th to face the York Dukes (JV at 7:05pm and Varisty at 8:35pm).  For more information on the Eagles Hockey Club, visit www.eagleshockeyclub.org
