Severe Cold Expected After Snow Tapers Off

The National Weather Service is predicting colds as low as 10 degrees below zero with wind chills down to 25 degrees below zero Thursday night into Friday morning.

Snow fall is winding down early Thursday evening, after about 8 inches fell throughout the area. 

The National Weather Service is still holding a lake effect snow warning for Cook County until 6 p.m. Temperatures are expected to drop Thursday night into Friday morning between -5 and -10 degrees below zero. Winds at 15 to 25 mph are predicted to create a severe wind chill down to -15 to -25 degrees below zero, as well as sending snow drifts on to roads and other areas.

People are encouraged to wear a hat and gloves, and keep as much skin covered as possible when going outside. Commuters who will be waiting for trains are especially warned to take precautions for the weather.

According to Orland Park's Public Works Department, 9.5 inches of snow fell in the village over the last four days as of Thursday morning. Updated totals are expected later in the evening.

Orland Park snow removal parking rules are in effect. Cars need to be kept off of the streets as plowing crews clear snow from the streets.
