Illinois State Senator Michael Hastings visit

Illinois State Senator Michael Hastings paid a visit to the 8th graders at Cardinal Bernardin School in Orland Hills.  The students just completed their study of Illinois State Government and the Illinois Constitution.  Senator Hastings, who represents the 19th Senatorial District, spoke with the students about the lawmaking process in the State of Illinois and his role as a senator.  He told them about his education at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and his service in the U.S. Army in Iraq.  Senator Hastings shared his experience as an elected official for High School District 230.  He encouraged the students to do their best in all that they do.  He challenged them to “never stop learning” and to “volunteer to help others.”

“This was a great opportunity for our students to enhance their study of Illinois Government.  Their interaction with Senator Hastings provided them with first-hand knowledge of what it means to serve your community and your country,” said Mrs. Marnie O’Neill, 8th grade social studies teacher at Cardinal Bernardin School.   “We feel very privileged that Senator Hastings took the time to meet with the students and answer all of their questions.”
