Food for the Community

Seven Boy Scouts - from Troop 318 - are currently working on their merit badge: Citizenship in the Community

The Orland Township Food Pantry, managed by Marianne Hill, serves the communities of Orland Hills, Orland Park, and a portion of Tinley Park. Each month, 300 families receive assistance from the food pantry, and with the arrival of the holidays, an additional 200 families will join the list.

Seven Boy Scouts - from Troop 318 - are currently working on their merit badge: Citizenship in the Community. In order to complete one section of the merit badge, they have to dedicate themselves to eight hours of a community service project. Choosing the Orland Township Food Pantry, they collected food from their fellow scouts at their weekly troop meeting, as well as from family, friends, and neighbors.

On November 9, 2013, the scouts delivered the food to the Orland Township Food Pantry at 14807 S. Ravinia Avenue, Orland Park, IL. With the help of the Orland Township Clerk Cindy Murray, Troop 318 Merit Badge Counselor Cindy Schumacher, and 11 additional Boy Scouts, they organized the collected food, checked the expiration dates, and stocked the pantry shelves.
