The weather outside isn’t all that frightful, yet. But as predicted our first snowstorm of the winter is underway.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Cook and Will counties until 9 a.m. Friday. Snowfall is expected to build up to between 4 and 8 inches, with the heaviest snow falling in afternoon and early evening, possibly at a rate of 1 inch per hour. Flurries will likely continue until Friday morning.

The snow will come with wind gusts between 15 and 35 mph, and wind chill dropping to between zero degrees and 10 below at night, according to the NWS.

For information on Orland Park's snow removal, visit their public works webpage.

Be careful while driving especially during the early evening, when winds and heavy snowfall will hamper visibility on roads.

The NWS suggests keeping a flashlight and water in your car in case of emergency if you have to travel.
