2 ½ teaspoons baking powder

¼ teaspoon salt

1 cup ham, diced

1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded

½ cup parmesan cheese, grated

½ cup cold butter

2/3 cup buttermilk

1 egg yolk

1 Tablespoon milk

Preheat oven to 375.  In a large bowl mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, ham, and cheeses.

Cut in butter with pastry blender or your hands until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

In a separate bowl mix buttermilk and egg yolk.  Pour liquid into the dry ingredients and stir until combined.

Transfer dough to baking pan and shape into a 7 inch round.  Cut into 8 wedges, but do not separate wedges.  Brush with the 1 Tablespoon of milk.

Bake 22 to 25 minutes until golden brown.  Separate scones and serve warm or transfer to wire rack to cool.
