The women were at the school on Sept. 5 to register Nassar’s son when the theft took place, the release said.

"The school resource officer was notified of the theft and immediately called detectives," said police Commander John Keating. "He indicated one of the women was a former student and detectives went to her home and saw the three women leaving the home."

Keating said police stopped the women in a car and saw two of the women in the front seat trying to stash money in an armrest. Officers recovered $1,735 from inside the car and another $200 was found in a purse, Keating said.

"We searched the home and $8,000 was  found hidden in Yassin's room, Keating said. "All of the money was recovered."

"They were stopped within 20 minutes of the theft," Keating said praising the communication between the school officer and detectives.

All three were charged with felony theft, Keating said. Yassin was also charged with possession of illegal pharmaceuticals and Nassar was also found to be wanted on a warrant for failure to appear in an unrelated theft case.

The three women appeared at the Bridgeview Courthouse and bail was set at $10,000 for Yassin and Quaraveh. Bail was set at $20,000 for Nassar.

A preliminary hearing for the three women has been set for Sept. 24.

A call to Sandburg High School was not returned.
