Cops and Firefighters Team up to Battle Blaze

Orland Park police were first on scene Saturday night at what turned out to be a minor fire.

were able to minimize damage during a townhouse fire on Begonia Court Saturday after getting a helping hand from local police.

The blaze started around 6:45 p.m. in a car, which was parked in the garage of a townhouse at 15429 Begonia Court, Acting Battalion Chief Mike Schofield said during a phone interview. When firefighters arrived, Orland Park Police were already on scene using a fire extinguisher to squelch the flames.

"It didn't extend out of the car," Schofield said. "There was a little bit of smoke in the actual house, but it was minor. The police had it mostly out by the time we got there."

Fire inspectors believe the fire started in the car's engine. It was likely linked to an electrical glitch, Schofield said.

The home remained habitable after the fire, he noted.
