Cops: Drunk Driver Almost Hit Police Car Twice

Orland Park officer misses getting backed into by inches.

A Lombard man came close to hitting an Orland Park police car twice within a span of a few minutes.

An started following a car after it turned into the middle 159th Street heading west in the 8800 block on Saturday. The car turned close to the officer’s squad car, leading the officer to hit the brakes narrowly missing a collision, according to an Orland Park police report.

The car was then seen crossing over lane lines before turning into a private driveway, police said. The officer then turned on emergency lights, and pulled behind the car, according to the report.

But the car then started to back up out of the driveway, forcing the officer to back away, and missed the squad car by inches, police said. Another Orland Park officer on patrol drove up to the car, boxing it in, according to the report.

Police smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath, and the driver twice gave the same expired insurance card to the officer, police said. The driver also failed field sobriety tests, according to the report.

David S. Serpas, 29, of the 500 block of Washington Boulevard in Lombard, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper turning, improper lane use, failure to yield and unsafe backing up.
