Cops: Woman Accused in December Hit and Run with a Pedestrian

An Orland Hills woman has been charged with fleeing the scene of an accident in December in which another woman on foot was struck and injured.

An Orland Hills woman was arrested Wednesday after police said she was identified as the driver in a hit and run accident with a pedestrian.

Roseanne M. Zullo, 56, of the 16800 block of 91st Avenue in Orland Hills, was charged with failure to report an accident involving personal injury, a Class 2 felony. Since Dec. 29, Orland Park police had been looking for the driver responsible for an accident in which a woman on foot in the 16600 block of 88th Avenue was struck by a dark-colored Dodge pickup truck.

A 40-year-old woman and a friend were out jogging on the street around 4:15 a.m. when she was struck by the truck and seriously hurt, police said. The friend called to Zullo to call 911, but the friend said Zullo fled the scene, according to police. Neither the woman or her friend had a cell phone on them at the time, Orland Park Police Cmdr. John Keating said Wednesday.

"Emergency response was delayed because the friend had to knock on doors to get someone to call for help," Keating said.

The woman was taken to Silver Cross Hospital before she was transferred to Loyola Hospital for further treatment. She is at home now, but still recovering from the accident, Keating said.

Another witness came forward recently and identified Zullo, as well as the truck she was driving that night, according to police. Zullo was arrested and taken to the Bridgeview Courthouse Wednesday afternoon for a hearing.

Zullo's bond was set at $500,000, according to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

"It may seem high, but these accidents happen too often," Keating said. "It's important that the judge sent a message on what can happen if people try to get away with a hit and run."
