Disoriented Driver Misses Chicago, Ends up in Orland Park

A 51-year-old Dolton man was accused of drunken driving after Orland Park police stopped his car on Aug. 24.

A man who got lost driving from Schaumburg to Chicago was stopped in Orland Park and charged with drunken driving.

Maurice Walker, 51, of the 14800 block of Indiana Avenue, Dolton, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol level greater than 0.08, not having insurance, illegally transporting alcohol and improper lane use, according to an Orland Park police report.

Police received a call at about 8:50 p.m. on Aug. 24 about a reckless driver who was weaving in and out of the lanes, the report states. Officers caught up with a red sedan on 159th Street near 84th Avenue. They tried to stop the car, which rolled to stop in the middle of the road. One officer could immediately smell an odor of alcohol when speaking with the driver.

Walker, who said he was lost and looking for an intersection in Chicago, was told he was headed the wrong direction and away from the city, the report states. Walker was coming from Schaumburg and reportedly believed he was on 127th Street when police stopped him.

Police escorted Walker to a nearby parking lot, where he performed tests for sobriety. Police said he failed. During a search of the car, officers found about a dozen empty beer cans and a backpack that contained four bullets in the trunk.

Walker was taken to Cook County bond court the next day.
