Mom Picks up Kids, Gets DUI Charge: Blotter

Retail Theft

Shamar L. Wright, 41, of the 14500 block of Cottage Grove Avenue in Dolton, was charged with retail theft, according to a report. She is accused of taking three boxes of jewelry without paying for them from Sears, 2 Orland Square Dr. The value of the jewelry was more than $300.

DUI Charge for Orland Hills Driver

Valecia A. Gill, 50, of the 9200 block of Hunter Drive in Orland Hills, was charged with driving under the influence, improper left turn and improper turn at an intersection, according to a report. She is accused of driving drunk after picking up her children at Party City, 14906 LaGrange Rd. Police reportedly caught up to Gill at about 2:27 p.m. near LaGrange Road and 151 Street after receiving a tip and spotted her making wide turns and weave in her lane. After stopping her, police reported smelling an odor of alcohol coming from her breath. She took field sobriety test and was arrested. She was due in Bridgeview court on March 25.

Tobacco Compliance Check

Orland Park police cited one business was cited for selling tobacco to a minor after a check of businesses tobacco enforcement agents. Twenty-nines were part of the check. An employee of The Spot, 9005 151st Street, was cited.

Drug Charges

Brandon M. Winchel, 21, of the 17400 block of Harvest Hill Drive in Orland Park, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to signal when required, according to a report. Winchel’s blue Honda was stopped at about 7:28 p.m. near 288 Orland Square Dr. for changing lanes without signaling. Police could smell an odor of burnt marijuana in the car. An officer found a small baggie with a green leafy substance on the ground just outside the driver’s door. During a search of the car, police discovered a glass pipe, another baggie of marijuana and six pills that were later identified as Vyvance, a substance similar to Adderol. He was due in Bridgeview court on Feb. 27. A passenger, Connor P. McCormick, 22, of the 15400 block of Raintree Drive in Orland Park, was charged possession of a controlled substance.
