Orland Park Police Blotter: Boy Hitches Ride in Airless Car Trunk

Orland Park police reports, Oct. 8-11

TUESDAY, OCT. 11

Clothes Hidden in Baby Stroller

Elisa R. Mendez, 33, of the 800 block of West Wind Drive in New Lenox, was charged with retail theft. Mall security told police that a woman later identified as Mendez left a department store around 4 p.m. with two baby shirts hidden in her stroller. The items totaled $74, according to the report.

Reckless Ride

Christopher Cruz, 20, 8500 block of Fernald Avenue in Morton Grove, was charged with reckless conduct for giving his friend a ride in the car’s airless trunk. Police said they stopped Cruz’s car in the 16700 block of Mallow Ridge Drive, a few blocks from where where saw it set off, and found a sweaty 17 year old in the trunk. According to the report, the car had five other passengers, and Cruz told police he didn’t have room for his friend and he agreed because they were only traveling a few blocks. The boy was not reported injured. Cruz was also charged with no rear plate light and unlawful number of passengers.

Passengers Alexander L. Devalle, 20, of the 3800 block of Kenmore Avenue in Chicago, and Elton A. Jacobson, 20, of the 7800 block of Foster Street in Morton Grove, were charged with underage consumption of alcohol.

Lawyer Knows Best

William J. McGuane, 39, of the 6500 block of Gibson Drive in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was charged with driving under the influence, improper lane usage, speeding, expired registration, no valid insurance and driving while license revoked. Police said they stopped McGuane’s car in the 15900 block of Will Cook Road around 2:45 a.m. for speeding and drifting across lanes. McGuane told police that “based on his lawyer’s advice” he wasn’t going to perform field sobriety tests, but police said he "smelled of alcohol."

SATURDAY, OCT. 8

DUI Accident

Catalin Lesinatu, 30, of the 8600 block of Lexington Circle in Orland Park, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed and leaving the scene of an accident. Police said Lesinatu caused an accident in the intersection of 151st Street and Orlan Brook Drive around 7:45 p.m., striking a street pole and then fleeing on foot, leaving a passenger behind. He came back to the intersection several minutes later and spoke with police, smelling of alcohol, according to the report. He was also charged with failure to give information after striking property and failure to report an accident.

Assault

Kristen D. Kozik, 19, of the 13900 block of 84th Avenue in Orland Park, was charged with assault. Police said Kozik threatened to kill a man and woman inside her home around 5:30 p.m.

Underage Drinking, Adult Trespassing

Ryan G. Fehringer, 19, of the 2600 block of Cass Street in Joliet, was charged with underage consumption of alcohol and littering. Police said they saw Fehringer drinking inside his car in the Orland Square Mall parking lot around 5:45 p.m.

James A. Fehringer, 49, of the 9100 block of Pulaski Road in Oak Lawn, a passenger, was released at the scene but issued a trespass ban on all mall property for one year, police said. About one hour later, an officer spotted James Fehringer walking through the parking lot and, after several warnings to leave, arrested Fehringer for trespassing, according to the report.

Retail Theft

Lauren C. Tribble, 20, of the 11700 block of Laflin Sreet in Chicago, was charged with retail theft. Mall security told police that a woman later identified as Tribble left a department store around 5:15 p.m. without paying for a pair of pants and jewelry totaling $99.
