Orland Park Police Blotter: DUI and Retail Thefts

TUESDAY, JULY 10

Morning Swerve

Police were called about a possible intoxicated driver in a silver Jeep heading east on LaGrange Road, after almost striking another car, around 6:50 a.m. The officer heard several other reports about the same Jeep leaving its lane, almost striking another vehicle and then hitting the curb, before he caught up to the vehicle at 159th Street and Harlem Avenue, according to the report. At first, the vehicle drove without any issues, but then it started going over lane lines, and drove near a van in the other lane, police said. The officer pulled the Jeep over at 159th Street and Oak Park Avenue, police said. The officer smelled alcohol in the Jeep and the driver failed field sobriety tests, police said. Stephanie R. Schow, 32, of the 1600 block of Burry Circle Drive in Crest Hill, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane use and failure to notify about an address change.

SUNDAY, JULY 8

Shoes Made for Walking

Police were called about a retail theft at JCPenney at an undisclosed time. Security said a man asked for a bag from a clerk, and then placed a pair of shoes in the bag, before handing it to another man who placed another pair of shoes in the bag, before leaving the store without paying. The shoes are worth $110 total, police said. Tony C. Collins, 51, of the 1700 block of West 71st Street in Chicago, and Richard Tubbs, 42, of the 3900 block of West 167th Street in Country Club Hills, were each charged with retail theft.

SATURDAY, JULY 7

Return Shopper

Police were called about a retail theft at JCPenney around 3:45 p.m. Security said a woman was seen taking jewelry and a pair of slippers and placed them in a JCPenney shopping bag, before taking a towel to the register and only buying the towel, police said. The woman then made two trips into a dressing room with items, and left the rooms with her bag looking noticeably more full to security, and placed a few items back onto return shelves, police said.  She then left the store and was found with $215 worth of unpaid merchandise, police said. Lilia L. Garibay, 46, of the 7600 block of Cashew Drive in Orland Park, was charged with retail theft.

TUESDAY, JULY 3

Bag It

Police were called about a retail theft at Macy’s around 7:15 p.m. Security said a woman took clothing into a dressing room, placed them in a bag she brought into the store, and left the store without paying, police said. The items are worth $134.50, according to the report. Sheaneaka J. Crockett, 34, of the 8300 block of Justine Street in Chicago, was charged with retail theft.
