TUESDAY, APRIL 24

Is This Not A Reasonable Place to Park?

Police signaled for a car to pull over after seeing it disobey a traffic signal while driving east on 159th Street at 88th Avenue, and it stopped on the center line in the 7300 block of 159th Street around 12:45 a.m. The officer suggested the driver move to the Home Depot parking lot because of its safety compared to the median strip, according to the report. Once in the parking lot, the officer noticed the driver’s breath smelled like alcohol, his speech was slurred and he appeared lethargic, police said. The driver said he drove through the traffic light because he wasn’t paying attention, according to the report. The driver failed field sobriety tests, police said.   Christopher B. Smith, 23, of the 10700 block of Harlem Avenue in Worth, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08 and disobeying a traffic light.

MONDAY, APRIL 23

Police were called about a criminal trespassing situation in 13300 block of Lahinch Drive around 5:30 p.m. Police were told the man accused of trespassing left the area in a silver Honda SUV, and neither the responding officer, nor others on patrol, were able to find the SUV, according to the report. An officer spoke with the woman who called in the trespassing and said the man has been told several times that he is not allowed into the house without consent, police said. The resident’s front door was unlocked at the time, because she said she was running a quick errand, according to the report. People within the home told the man he was not allowed in, and called the woman, police said. Police later caught up with the man who denied the woman’s claims, according to the report. Aladdin H. Hadid, 44, of the 9000 block of 140th Street in Orland Park, was charged with criminal trespass to land.

Stuffed Shirts

Police were called about a retail theft at Carson Pirie Scott around 1:50 p.m. Security said a woman was seen taking clothing off racks and placing them in her purse, before heading to a dressing room, police said. While in the dressing room, the woman put the clothing items under her own, and then left the store without paying for the items, police said. The clothing is worth $456.88, police said. Elena Luis, 57, of the 5300 block of West 108th Place in Oak Lawn, was charged with felony retail theft.

SUNDAY, APRIL 15

Happy Hour Drive

Police were called about a black Honda vehicle swerving all over the road, and found the vehicle driving north on Harlem Avenue at 151st Street around 3:25 p.m. The officer pulled over the vehicle after seeing it nearly hit a curb while swerving to the right, crossing over a lane marker and taking a wide left turn, according to the report. The driver’s breath smelled like alcohol, he slurred his speech while talking and appeared disorientated, police said. The officer saw an open can of Miller Light in the back seat, and later found three unopened cans of beer and two bottles of brandy inside the car, according to the report. The driver failed field sobriety tests, police said. While he was being processed, the driver banged his head against a metal table, and swore he would name the arresting officers in a suicide note, according to the report. He was then taken to Palos Community Hospital, police said. Won K. Kim, 31, of the 8900 block of Sunrise Lane in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, improper turning, improper lane use and illegal transportation of alcohol.

SATURDAY, APRIL 14

Express Bagging

Police were called about a retail theft at Macy’s around 6:45 p.m. Security said a woman was seen carrying 13 clothing items into a dressing room, as well as an Express shopping bag, according to the report. She emerged from the room with four items, placing them back on the display before leaving the store without making a purchase, police said. The woman was stopped and found with nine items worth $208.50, according to the report. Melissa W. Becerra, 19, of the 2700 block of 128th Street in Chicago, was charged with retail theft.
