Orland Park Police Blotter: Man Cashes False Check, Woman Returns Store’s Mixer

TUESDAY OCT. 20

In and Out of Lanes

Police pulled a car over after seeing it cross over into oncoming traffic on Lakeview Drive near Montgomery Drive around 11:55 p.m. A caller said the same car had been driving in and out of lanes around Orland Square Drive and Lakeview Drive, police said. The driver’s breath smelled like alcohol and he failed field sobriety tests, police said. Felipe D. Correa, 35, of the 9000 block of Lunar Avenue in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving an uninsured vehicle, driving without a valid license and improper lane use.

MONDAY, OCT. 19

Wrong Place for a Nap

Police found a man asleep behind the wheel of a parked running car in the drive gear around 3:40 a.m. near 135th Street and Southwest Highway. The man remained asleep while police turned off the ignition and removed the keys, according to the report. His breath smelled like alcohol and he failed field sobriety tests, police said. John M. Carr, 47, of the 15100 block of 109th Avenue in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving an uninsured vehicle, driving without a license, disobeying a traffic control device and failure to notify of an address change.

SATURDAY OCT. 17

Walking Mixer

Police were called about a retail theft at JCPenney around 3:30 p.m. Staff said a woman was seen walking into the store empty handed, took a Kitchenaid mixer off a shelf and went to a cashier to return the mixer, police said. The woman was given a gift card for the amount of the mixer for $381.50, and she left the store, according to the report. With information from store staff, police later found the woman at her residence, and she admitted to returning the unpaid-for mixer, police said. Kristen M. Ward, 40, of the 17500 block of Cedar Lane in Tinley Park, was charged with retail theft.

SATURDAY, OCT. 10

False Check

Police were called to Fifth Third Bank about a person depositing what was thought to be a forged check. Police spoke with the man accused of depositing the check, and he said got the check from a friend who asked him to deposit it, according to the report. The check was for $994.26 and was issued by Workforce Logic, LLC. to a  Michelle D. Wheeler with a South Holland address, police said. The check was from a PNC Bank account, and staff at the Tinley Park PNC told staff at Fifth Third that the account number was invalid and the check was fraudulent, police said. The man refused to tell police for whom he was depositing the check, according to the report. Samuel E. Tillman, 19, of the 23000 block of East Drive in Richton Park, was charged with felony forgery.
