Orland Park Police Blotter: Missing iPhone Tracked to Nearby Thief

TUESDAY, JUNE 12

In the Bag

Police were called about a retail theft at Sears around 4 p.m. Security said a woman was seen going into a dressing room with three clothing items, and left the room carrying a bag from another store, before leaving Sears without making a purchase, police said. The items found in her bag are worth $136, police said. Shariece Temple, 29, of the 1000 block of Samson Drive in University Park, was charged with retail theft.

SATURDAY, JUNE 9

Line Swerve

Police pulled over a car for swerving outside of the lane line on 159th Street near Park Station Boulevard, around 3 a.m. The driver’s breath smelled like alcohol, and he failed field sobriety tests, police said. Jason C. Jancik, 23, of the 14300 block of Surrey Court in Homer Glen, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08 and improper lane use.

Wide Turn

Police pulled over a car for driving into the right lane while making a left turn in the 8300 block of 159th Street around 12:55 a.m. The driver’s breath smelled like alcohol, but he refused to take field sobriety tests or use a Breathalyzer, police said. Ricardo A. Perez, 26, of the 10600 block of Avenue G in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper turning.

FRIDAY, JUNE 8

Domestic Battery

Police were called about a domestic dispute that turned physical outside an apartment building in the 17900 block of Fountain Circle around 11:05 p.m. The officer heard people yelling at each other when he arrived, according to the report. Witnesses told police that a man grabbed a woman’s wrist leaving a red mark, and he then pushed her to the floor, police said. Details from the man charged were not listed in the report. Bart Moccio, 39, of the 10600 block of Shilling Road in Frankfort, was charged with domestic battery.

Magic of Technology

Police were called about a missing iPhone taken from a man while at Lifetime Fitness around 1:45 p.m. A man was playing basketball when he noticed his iPhone was missing, after leaving it out near other basketball players’ items, police said. The phone owner said a man seen around where his phone was had left the gym area around the time he realized it was missing, according to the report. Using a tracker application, the phone owner tracked it down to within Lifetime Fitness, police said. The man who had left the gym was coming back into the gym, and the phone tracker showed the phone coming back into the gym as well, according to the report. The man who left admitted to taking the phone and returned it, police said.  Tevin C. Harris, 19, of the 22500 block of Joshua Drive in Frankfort, was charged with theft.

FRIDAY, JUNE 1

Warrant Arrest

Police were called about a man with an active Orland Park warrant in Evergreen Park police’s custody after a minor traffic accident around 7:20 p.m. David A. Rivera, 31, of the 1200 block of Halsted Street in Chicago Heights, was arrested on an Orland Park warrant for battery, issued in 2000.
