SUNDAY, SEPT. 18

Sleepy Drunk Pulled from Car

Joseph D. Exline, 25, of the 5000 block of 135th Street in Crestwood, was charged with DUI. Police said they arrested Exline after he parked his car in the intersection near Lakeview Drive and Franklin Court around 3 a.m. and fell asleep with his foot on the brake. After several minutes, Exline awoke and punched the accelerator, police said. Before the car could drive over the blocks firemen placed in front of him, police used their flashlights to break Exline’s window, removing him from the door and shutting off the car, according to the report. He suffered bruises and “small lacerations” from the exploding glass, police said.

Three Tractor Thieves?

Three men were stopped in the 8400 block of 159th Street around 2:30 a.m., accused of driving with a stolen tractor in their pickup bed, police said. All three men offered police conflicting stories of how and where they came into possession it, according to the report.

Gregory A. Gray, 44, of the 17000 block of Albany Avenue in Hazel Crest, was charged with felony theft. Todd J. Zaylik, 44, of the 2800 block of Knollwood Place in Hazel Crest, and Steven W. Hufnagel, 27, of the 200 block of La Salle Street in Princeton, were charged with theft by possession. 

SATURDAY, SEPT. 17

Illegal Possession and Consumption

Piotr J. Kubacka, 20, of the 13900 block of Stockton Lane in Orland Park, was charged with illegal possession of alcohol and illegal consumption of alcohol. Police said they stopped a car in the 15700 block of Wolf Road around 1:45 a.m. for speeding. Kubacka, a passenger, failed a Breathalyzer, according to the report.

School Skaters

Oscar Barrientos, 20, of the 14400 block of Ravinia Avenue in Orland Park, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police stopped and questioned Barrientos for skateboarding outside High Point School around 6 p.m. with several juveniles. Officers found a pipe in his pocket, according to the report.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 16

Moving Car Window Punched Out

Mario A. Chavez, 20, of the 15300 block of Regent Drive in Orland Park, was charged with domestic related assault and underage consumption of alcohol. Police said Chavez broke the front passenger’s side window of a moving car with his fist at Windsor Drive and Regent Drive around 1:45 a.m.

Also present, Samantha A. Laba, 18, of the 8100 block of Harding Avenue in Skokie, was charged with underage consumption of alcohol.

If the Belt Fits...

Andrew W. Durham, 22, of the 400 block of Furness Road in Michigan City, IN, was charged with retail theft. Orland Square Mall security told police that a man ripped the tag off a $70 belt, put it around his waist, and left the store around 8 p.m.

Failure to Turn on Green

Holly M. Higgins, 34, of the 600 block of Louisiana Avenue in Champaign, was charged with DUI, disobeyed traffic signal, and operation an uninsured motor vehicle. Police said they stopped Higgins’s car in the 14300 block of LaGrange Road around 11 p.m. for failing to turn on a green arrow.

MONDAY, SEPT. 12

Close to Home

Daniel Ixtepun, 29, of the 7400 block of Tiffany Drive in Orland Park, was charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license. Police said they stopped Ixtepun’s car outside his home around 9:30 p.m. for swerving and nearly striking a curb. Ixtepun’s license had previously been suspended for DUI, according to the report.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 10

DUI of Drugs

Ronnie T. Bronkema, 55, of the 9000 block of 48th Court in Oak Lawn, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, improper lane usage, failure to signal, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Police said Bronkema pulled alongside their squad car around 4 a.m. to ask for directions. He told police he was on his way to help a friend. According to the report, his speech was slightly slurred and he had difficulty balancing at times.

Though the officer did not smell alcohol, he followed Bronkema, finally stopping him in the 15800 block of Harlem Avenue for weaving and changing lanes without signaling, police said. Bronkema told police he takes medication and provided several empty bottles of prescription pills. He was arrested and taken to Palos Community Hospital for blood and urine samples, according to the report.
