Orland Park Police Blotter: Small Bags of Marijuana, Blanket of Wallets

SUNDAY, JULY 22

Curb Jump

Police were called about a car up on the curb and blocking a traffic lane in the 15600 block of LaGrange Road around 1:35 a.m. The driver appeared dazed, his breath smelled like alcohol, he slurred his speech and failed field sobriety tests, police said. While in custody, police found an active Cook County warrant on him from a previous DUI, according to the report.  Alberto Reyes-Flores, 25, of the 1000 block of Central Park Avenue in Chicago, was charged with aggravated driving under the influence, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08, illegal stopping and driving with a suspended license.

SATURDAY, JULY 21

Speeding, DUI

Police pulled over a car for speeding at 143rd Street and 88th Avenue around 3:35 a.m. The driver’s breath smelled like alcohol and he failed field sobriety tests, police said. Michael R. Nothhelfer, 23, of the 14800 block of Westwood Drive in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding.

Different Take on Shopping

Police were called to Target about a retail theft around 6:15 p.m. Security said a woman was seen taking a tote bag off a display and placed several pieces of merchandise in the bag, before leaving the store without paying, police said. The value of what was taken is $243.81, police said. Somone O. Agers, 20, of the 9300 block of South Laflin Street in Chicago, was charged with retail theft.
FRIDAY, JULY 20

Small Red Bags

Police pulled over a car when a passenger was seen not wearing a seat belt on 159th Street near 80th Avenue around 7:15 p.m. The officer smelled marijuana from within the car, according to the report. Police released a K9 who signaled to three spots within the car, police said. The officer found a clear plastic bag with 11 smaller red baggies inside, all containing a green leafy substance, under the passenger’s seat, police said. Another clear plastic bag, with 11 smaller red baggies inside each containing a green leafy substance, was found under the dashboard below the glove box, according to the report. And another set of 11 red baggies with a green leafy substance inside were found in the driver’s purse, police said. The total amount of the green leafy substance was 17 grams, and it tested field-positive for marijuana, police said. Eric V. Jones, 21, of the 200 block of 51st Street in Chicago, and Jessica L. Moorer, 19, of the 2000 block of Downey Road in Homewood, were each charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. Jones was also cited for failure to wear a seat belt.

THURSDAY, JULY 19

Swerve and Red

Police pulled over a car for swerving in and out of traffic lanes around 7:45 p.m. on 158th Street near Lakeview Drive. The driver fumbled with his license, his eyes were red and lids were hanging low, police said. The driver failed field sobriety tests, police said.  Jeffrey A. Epich, 29, of the 2400 block of Vesta Drive in Joliet, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and improper lane use.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 18

Hit, Run, Loosen Belt

Police were called about a hit and run accident in the 15100 block of LaGrange Road around 10:35 p.m.  A vehicle matching the description of the one responsible for the accident was seen at a gas station in the 13000 block of LaGrange Road shortly thereafter, police said. The driver’s belt was undone and his pants were falling down as he exited his car, police said. His speech was slurred and he gave the officer a work ID, a receipt and a credit card while trying to find a traffic ticket, according to the report. He also smelled like alcohol and failed field sobriety tests, police said. Neither he nor the driver of the other car in the accident were injured, according to the report. Mario Garza, 33, of the 400 block of Fairway Lane in University Park, was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

TUESDAY, JULY 7

Blanketing Wallets

Police were called about a retail theft at Marshall’s around 8:45 p.m. Security said a man was seen carrying a blanket, and placed four wallets inside the blanket, before leaving the store without paying, police said. The wallets are worth $269.96, police said. Phillip Fabian, 32, of the 16400 block of Blair Lane in Oak Forest, was charged with retail theft.
