Orland Park Police Blotter: Swerving DUI, Drunk Train Ride and Stolen Clothes

THURSDAY, JAN. 26

Clothes Walk

Police were called about a retail theft at Carson Pirie Scott around 5:20 p.m. Security said a woman was seen taking clothing and walking out of the store without paying, police said. The items are worth $38. Venisha R. Childs, 26, of the 13400 block of Ridgeway in Robbins, was charged with retail theft.

Driving Test

Police pulled over a car after seeing it cross into the median, swerve between lanes, turn without signaling and cross through a parking lot, on 82nd Avenue near Uxbridge Drive around 2:10 a.m. The driver’s breath smelled like alcohol and he failed field sobriety tests, police said. Felix Hernandez, 28, of the 13700 block of Trafalgar Court in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08, improper lane use, failure to signal and avoiding a traffic control device.

Beer, Trains and Automobiles

Police were called about a man who was drinking on a Metra train, and later was wandering the lot at 153rd Street trying to find his car around 7:20 p.m. Police found a man matching the description given sitting in a Saturn with the engine running, according to the report. The man couldn’t find his driver’s license, slurred his speech heavily, smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests, police said. He also admitted to drinking beers before getting into his car, police said. Thomas M. Farrington, 52, of the 15300 block of South Royal Georgian Road in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08.

MONDAY, JAN. 23

Stolen Debit Card

A woman reported around 7:40 p.m. at the Orland Park Police Station that purchases and ATM withdrawals had been made on her account, but not by her. The woman suspected a man who knew where she had kept her debit card, according to the report. Police spoke with the man, and he admitted to using the card without her permission, police said. The man charged $153.81 onto the card, according to the report. Conor McCormick, 21, of the 15400 block of Raintree Drive in Orland Park, was charged with credit card fraud.

SUNDAY, JAN. 22

Bag, Pipe Found

Police pulled over a car for making an improper left turn onto 151st Street from 94th Avenue around 10:10 p.m. The officer smelled marijuana while talking to the driver, according to the report. The driver then said a glass pipe and a small bag of marijuana was in the car, police said. Emily D. Sheehan, 21, of the 11400 block of Troy Avenue in Merrionette Park, was cited with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
