Blotter: Pregnant Woman Abused, Employees Defrauded Store

Orland Park police reports Jan. 6 - Feb. 12

SATURDAY, FEB. 12

Torn Security Sensors

Renee T. Luye, 28, of the 5600 block of McVicker Avenue in Chicago, was charged with retail theft. Orland Square Mall security told police that Luye tore the security sensors off three shirts around 4 p.m. and left a department store.

FRIDAY, FEB. 11

Marijuana Pipe

Jeffrey J. Nilsson, 29, of the 7700 block of 170th Place in Tinley Park, was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said they questioned Nilsson in his parked car near Huntington Court and Hopkins Court around 7:30 p.m. and found 2 grams of marijuana and a pipe with residual marijuana.

THURSDAY, FEB. 10

Boutique Theft

Rachel L. Miwa, 21, of the 14100 block of Kostner Avenue in Crestwood, was charged with retail theft. Mall security told police that Miwa left a boutique around 8 p.m. without paying for earrings and a book.

Boutique Theft II

About two hours prior, two women left the same boutique without paying for two items totaling $16, according to police. Krystyne L. Jones, 18, of the 21100 block of Whitney Drive in Matteson, and Karen L. Richard, 18, of the 800 block of Spirit Drive in Matteson, were issued citations and released at the mall, police said.

Shirts and Socks

Jennifer A. Danta, 40, of the 2900 block of Bisbee Drive in Joliet, was charged with retail theft. Mall security told police that Danta left a department store around 10 a.m. without paying for shirts and socks totaling $197.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 9

Domestic Battery

[Name Withheld], 26, of the 16500 block of Evergreen Drive in Tinley Park, was charged with domestic battery. Police said [Name Withheld] slammed a five-month pregnant woman’s head against his car door window, causing her left eye to swell, around 7:15 p.m. outside Chili’s Bar Grill.

Video Game Theft

Joellen Macglashan, 24, of the 16700 block of 90th Avenue in Orland Hills, was charged with retail theft. Employees at a store in the 15000 block of LaGrange Road told police that Macglashan hid 15 video games totaling $112 around 8 p.m. and left without paying.

Hit and Run

Paulius Voveris, 23, of the 8100 block of 160th Street in Tinley Park, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid accident, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a suspended license. Police said they stopped Voveris’s car in the 9100 block of 159th Street after fleeing an accident at 108th Avenue and 159th Street around 7 p.m.

THURSDAY, JAN. 6

Defrauded Department Store

Two employees of a department store in Orland Square Mall were charged with theft for making purchases and then refunding themselves with gift cards without returning the merchandise, according to the report.

On three occasions in December, Carlos M. Gonzalez, 20, of the 10400 block of Ridgeland Avenue in Chicago Ridge, fraudulently refunded more than $350, police said.

On one occasion in January, Brian A. Smith, 19, of the 7000 block of 99th Street in Chicago Ridge, fraudulently refunded more than $100, police said.

They were arrested on Jan. 6 around 12:45 p.m. at the department store, police said.
