Reckless Driving: Viper Tears Through Town

On Sept. 3 at about 5:15 p.m., police were called to the 10600 block of Bonnieglen Place about a yellow Dodge Viper speeding through the neighborhood and possibly striking a mailbox. A witness told police that a Viper sped while turning, fishtailed, went up on to a parkway and drove over a mailbox.  The officer said he saw damage on the Viper's passenger side door and mirror. The Viper's driver told police he was testing out the vehicle because he was thinking of buying it and offered to pay for the mailbox. Witnesses told police children were in the area on bikes, and the officer reported that he saw the same. Wojciech Zolnik, 40, of Orland Park, was charged with reckless driving.

DUI: Vomiting Before Trying To Drive

Police said on Sept. 12 at about 4 a.m. a silver Toyota was seen parked in the southbound lane on Wolf Road near 159th Street. The Toyota started driving away as the officer approached, and a youthful looking man in the back seat leaned over another passenger to vomit out the window, police said. The Toyota came to a halt right after the officer turned on emergency lights, and the same man jumped into the front driver seat while the driver moved into a back seat, police said. The man who vomited told police he was driving because he was sober.  The man who jumped into the driver's seat, Sepas A. Siddiqui, 18, of Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol level greater than .08. Police said the man first seen behind the wheel, Samuel A. Miller, 17, of Orland Park, failed field sobriety tests. He was charged with driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08, failure to signal, driving without a valid license and parking in the roadway.

On Sept. 5 at about 2:10 a.m., a vehicle suddenly came up behind a police squad, according to police. The officer sped up, for fear of being hit, and then swerved onto the shoulder, according to the report. The vehicle, a Plymouth minivan, also veered onto the shoulder behind the squad car and then suddenly stopped. Police said the driver, Brian L. Haugen, 33, of Worth,  smelled like alcohol, slurred his speech and failed field sobriety tests. Police said a pipe and a bag of suspected marijuana were found on him. Haugen was charged with following too close to another vehicle, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content greater than .08, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license and not wearing a seatbelt.

Trespassing: Mark It Zero

Around midnight on Sept. 12, several people were seen fighting in the parking lot of Orland Bowl, 8601 159th St., police said. Witnesses said a man who is a former boyfriend of a woman at Orland Bowl was harassing her and other friends. Jason M. Raglione, 24, of Oak Forest was charged with criminal trespass to property and violating and order of protection. During the fight, according to the police report, he punched another man in the eye. Staff at the bowling alley told police he was asked to leave the business because he was harassing the group.

Reckless Driving: Heading East in the West Lane

On Sept. 5 at about 3:30 a.m., officers were called about a possible drunk driver driving the wrong way in traffic on 143rd Street near Southwest Highway. An officer pulled over a gold vehicle after seeing it driving east in the westbound lane of 143rd Street and swerving. A bottle of opened alcohol was found in the vehicle between a passed out passenger's legs, police said. The driver passed field sobriety tests. Zachary B. Hausner, 23, of Chicago, was charged with reckless driving, improper lane use, driving with a suspended license, driving on the wrong side of the road and illegally transporting liquor.

DUI: Early Happy Hour

On Sept. 7 at about 2:40 p.m., police were called about a vehicle accident near the 8900 block of 143rd Street. The driver, Joshua J. Vari, 30, of Oak Forest, slightly smelled of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content greater than .08, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and illegally transporting liquor.

DUI: Even Earlier Happy Hour

On Sept. 7 at about 9 a.m. police were called about a silver Toyota seen driving all over the road and up on grass areas between the 14900 block of Ravinia Avenue and near the parking lot in front of Robert Morris University. Police said the vehicle was found in the school's parking lot, and the driver reportedly smelled of alcohol. Police said Catherine D. Catellier, 53, of Orland Park, then took her foot off the brake during the traffic stop. An officer  reached into the car and put the vehicle in park before it struck his squad car. Catellier was charged with driving under the influence, illegally transporting liquor, driving without registration, driving an uninsured vehicle, driving with a revoked license and two counts of improper lane use.

DUI: Don't Go Over the Line

At 2:50 a.m. on Sept. 5, a vehicle was pulled over for speeding and crossing the road's center line near 159th Street and LaGrange Road. The driver, Jeffrey L. Dryer, 54, of Frankfort, failed field sobriety tests. He was charged with driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol level greater than .08, driving 31 mph over the limit and improper lane use.
