Mo' Money Mo' Problems
Richard K. Panovich, 62, of the 8200 block of 107th Street in Palos Hills, was charged with theft after stealing $1,658 in cash from an elderly male shopper inside , police said.
The man told police he was walking away from the cashier around 9:30 a.m. when he inadvertently left a wad of money, mostly hundred-dollar bills, on the counter. Panovich, standing next in line, pocketed the cash and left the store, police said.

The elderly man was seen chasing after Panovich’s car, banging on passenger side and shouting as police arrived.
Security at Meijer told police they would provide a copy of the surveillance footage once management approved. The Cook County state’s attorney may up the theft charge to felony once the footage is reviewed, police said.

Panovich admitted to taking the money, according to the report, telling police, “I had a moment of weakness ..."

Goodwin, God Willing
Samantha A. Goodwin, 21, of the 16400 block of Clark Lane in Tinley Park, was charged with retail theft. Security at a store in the 15700 block of 71st Court told police Goodwin put makeup and other items totaling $92 in her purse and left around 3:30 p.m. without paying.
The Parking Lot Dash
Two men were arrested for shoplifting around noon after they left a store in the 15800 block of 94th Avenue with $955 in unpaid goods, loaded a SUV parked near the exit and fled, police said.
The car was stopped before making it out of the parking lot, police said. Ricardo Maldonado, 42, of the 4900 block of Kostner Avenue in Chicago, was charged with retail theft, and Gerald R. Schultz, 41, 4600 block of Marshfield Avenue in Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft.

White, Whitting Red Handed
A man and woman were arrested for shoplifting around 7:45 p.m. after they left with unpaid clothing and took off running, police said.
They hopped in an SUV but didn’t make it out of the parking lot before police arrived, according to the report. Elise A. White, 22, of the 14000 block of Cedar Avenue in Homer Glen, and Eric K. Whitting, 19, of the 800 block of Junior Terrace in Chicago, were charged with retail theft.
Unpaid Clothing
Stacie L. Juris, 20, of the 8100 block of Glenbrook Place in Tinley Park, was charged with retail theft for leaving a mall department store around 1 p.m. with unpaid clothing totaling $288 in her purse, police said.
