Orland Park Holiday Festival and Tree Lighting Ceremony

The Village of Orland Park will kick-off the holiday season by hosting the 2010 Holiday Festival on Sunday, Nov. 28. The festivities begin at 3 p.m. with the arrival of Mayor Dan McLaughlin and Santa at the Orland Park Civic Center, 14750 S. Ravinia Ave. Activities at the Civic Center take place from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Mayor's Tree Lighting Ceremony will follow at 5:45 p.m. outside the Frederick T. Owens Village Hall, where Mayor McLaughlin will light the village tree and holiday displays along Ravinia Avenue, officially marking the start of the holiday season in the Village of Orland Park.

"The entire community is invited to join Mayor Dan McLaughlin and the Village Board of Trustees as the village celebrates the start of the holiday season in Orland Park," said Trustee Kathy Fenton, chair of the Village's Special Events and Community Outreach Committee. "Be sure to bring your camera to capture a visit with Santa," added Fenton. Holiday elves will be face painting and children can make and take a holiday craft.

"It's wonderful that we have so much local talent providing the entertainment for the festival," noted Fenton. Encore Concert Band will perform from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Orland Park Glee will perform from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the Orland Park Junior and Senior Dance Company will perform from 4:15 to 4:30 p.m. Carl Sandburg Chamber Singers will perform at 4:45 p.m. and will sing at the official tree lighting at 5:45 p.m. Also on the schedule is Mike Mauthe, whose magic and juggling show from 4:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. is always a crowd pleaser. Horse-drawn sleigh rides around the village center will be available from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
