O'Halloran: Clifford Declined Offer to Finish Contract

Metra board chairman Brad O'Halloran spoke in front of the Regional Transportation Authority board Wednesday, and offered reasons for a high cost settlement and severance package for former Metra executive director Alex Clifford.
The settlement includes over $400,000 in compensation, with an option for another $300,000 payout if Clifford does not find employment in the next 14 months.
O'Halloran has said that the settlement was made to avoid even greater litigation costs associated with Clifford if he sued Metra.
In response to criticism over the settlement amount, O'Halloran said Clifford was offered during negotiations to finish the remaining eight months of his contract with Metra and then leave but he turned it down.
