SMS First Graders Become The Teacher For Research Project
The first grade students of St. Michael School recently completed their first research project. Each student was assigned an animal to research for their Science class. The project was assigned by Mrs. Rose Bartlett, First Grade Science teacher. The students learned how to put a project and a report together. They were asked to work with their parents to gather information about their animal from books, magazines, and the Internet. They gain some experience with public speaking, as they had to present their project orally to their class. The students then became the “teacher” during their presentations. They not only taught about their animal, but asked questions to see who was listening. “I want [each student] to feel a genuine sense of accomplishment and pride.” said Mrs. Bartlett. This science project crossed over into the Language Arts curriculum as well.
