UPDATE: Sandburg Cheerleading Squad ABC-7 Appearance Moved to Monday

The state champion Sandburg cheerleading squad will be featured from 5 to 8 a.m. Monday in the ABC7 Cheerleader Cheer-Off event.

Update: Due to the incoming winter storm, Sandburg's appearance has been moved to Monday morning.

You have to get up pretty early in the morning to keep up with the state's best cheerleading squad.

No kidding.

Sandburg, coming off a record-breaking performance at the IHSA state tournament, will be featured from 5 to 8 a.m. on Monday in competition in the ABC7 Cheerleader Cheer-Off event at Eagle Gym.

The Eagles recently set a state record with their score of 94.84 and took the team title in the IHSA's large school division for the third time in a row. Now, they'll be out to best cheerleading squads from Conant, Chicago Kenwood Academy and Chicago Marist in the ABC7 cheer-off.

Fans will determine the winner in voting that runs from 7 a.m. Friday (Feb. 24) to 5 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 26).

"We are excited to have ABC 7 Chicago join us on Friday and showcase all the great things that Carl Sandburg High School has to offer," Sandburg cheerleading co-coach Mike Bruce said.

His Eagles are scheduled to begin performing at 5 a.m. ABC will broadcast live traffic reports from the site until 7 a.m. And additional student groups will be featured, too, throughout the morning, including Sandburg's St. Baldrick's group and Relay for Life group.

Vote for the cheerleaders on ABC's website.
