Saint Michael Band and Choir Gets into the Musical Season this Christmas

“Oh Come all ye Faithful”, “Jingle Bells” and “We wish you a Merry Christmas” were just some of the songs heard by concertgoers on Tuesday, December 10 by the students in the Saint Michael School band in Orland Park.  On Friday, December 20, students will also be able to enjoy the annual choir Christmas musical, in the church located at 14355 Highland Ave, Orland Park.

The band concert was conducted by band director Mr. Glenn Pawlak. Students, ranging from fifth to eighth grade, have dedicated much of their time and energy into these performances.

“The band is among one of the treasured annual traditions at St. Michael School, “says Principal Cuttone.  “It was really exciting to see and hear them using their talents to spread Christmas cheer.”

The band also performs in the spring and will have additional performances at Marist High School Grade School Night and solo contest at the regional level in March.

The Saint Michael Choir will be performing their Christmas musical on December 20 and 22 at the school’s church.

Choir Director, Kathy Roehl, is assisted for the musical by adult choir member, Jeri Wawrzycki and Saint Michael Music Director, Gary Patin.  The choir is made up of Saint Michael parishioners ranging in age from second to eighth grade.  Rehearsals for the Christmas musical began in September.

Titled Miracle on Main Street, the musical tells the story of a group of young and enthusiastic Christmas carolers who find out the mayor of their town has decided to ban the Christmas pageant from happening in the town square.  The mayor says the show is “old fashioned and will cause a lot of traffic problems.” The carolers are troubled by this decision and set to work to remind the mayor of the true meaning of Christmas.

“I am so proud of these kids, they work very hard,” says Roehl. “This show really gets everyone into the Christmas spirit.”
