TWO MILLION READERS AND ONE LADYBUG GIRL READ TOGETHER

More than 2 million people across the country read Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad on October 4, 2012 in support of Jumpstart's Read for the Record.

More than 2 million people across the country read Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad on October 4, 2012 in support of Jumpstart’s Read for the Record. Prairie School in Orland Park was a part of the 2 million readers as they hosted a Read for the Record event at the School on Thursday, October 4, 2012 with over 100 students and their families in attendance. Ten Prairie School teachers  participated in reading the story aloud to the students and extended the story with a comprehension follow-up activity with the children. Following the reading activity, students enjoyed an art project where students made their own ladybugs or insects using rocks, paint, and their imagination.

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record®, presented in partnership with the Pearson Foundation, is one day of the year when millions of individuals come together to celebrate literacy in an effort to jumpstart a child’s future. Jumpstart’s mission is to work toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed. The Read for Record event is an annual event at the Prairie School as an ongoing way to encourage students to keep reading.
