Jerling Says Thanks with Veterans Breakfast

Students, staff and faculty expressed gratitude to local veterans with a hot meal, live music and by simply saying so.

Ron Galvin has seen changes in how Americans view the military.

Galvin, who fought in the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army, was one of several local veterans who were treated to a hot breakfast, cooked by Jerling Junior High Staff and served by the students.

“These students are much more aware of our military than they were when I came home from Vietnam,” Galvin said. “It’s refreshing to see them be so receptive.”

Students and staff also treated the veterans and their family members to musical performances, as well as a ceremony for unknown soldiers lost during wars.

“This is an ongoing need,” Galvin said. “Those (soldiers) coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan will greatly need support.”
